| 'Smartie' is a super flash colt by Summerhill Sampson out of Rosewood Duelluta. Very cheeky, very striking and very 'Salute' with his four white stockings, even white blaze and expressive elevated movement.
Summerhill Sampson is by the legendary Salute whose blood has given us literally hundreds of top level performance horses, particularly in dressage but also in eventing and showjumping. Salute is the sire of GV Stirling Stilton, highest placed Australian Grand Prix horse at the 2002 World Equestrian Games; DP Christopher, NSW Grand Prix champion; Staccato, 4* eventing stallion; GV Stirling Souix (dec.), Advanced eventer with Olympian Olivia Bunn; David Middleton's spectacular Mr Shirvington and Sydney Lights who was sold to China as part of their team in training for the Beijing Olympics. Sampson is out of Lilac who is a full sister to Lucilla, Stirling Liberty and Stirling Luther. Lilac is the granddam of future stars purchased by Australian Olympian Mary Hanna, Hunter dressage rider Michelle Cunningham, and International Grand Prix dressage rider Sue Hearn. Stirling Liberty was a World Cup show jumper with Australian Olympic rider Gavin Chester and also the sire of Grand Prix dressage horse Snowy River Blackwood. Stirling Luther was an FEI dressage star with Dirk Dijkstra. Lilac is by Ludendorf who was of course a Grand Prix dressage stallion and simultaneously an Advanced eventer. Not too many horses manage that!! Lilac is out of Faleton who was by Falkland out of Moneton (by Monopol) who was QLD Dressage Horse of the Year in the 1970s. Falkland has of course had a huge impact on Australian Dressage through many generations of his offspring including Falkrich, sire of GP dressage horse Finnegan and World Cup show jumper Wirragulla Nicklaus as well as Falkland Victory who must be one of the most succesful sires of dressage horses in Australia. Falkland Victory incidentally was also out of a Monopol mare! Monopol was one of Australia's first imports and his genetics are also represented in famous competition horses such as Peter Weston's Grand Prix mount Supertramp, Brett Davey's FEI horse Barncleuth Harvest Moon, Geraldine Monfrans' GP horse Mongold and Liea Bierman's FEI horse Moneton (as mentioned above). Smartie's dam, Rosewood Duelluta is a Head Stud Book Australian Warmblood mare by the imported Hanoverian stallion Duellschutz out of a Valuta mare. Valuta was imported by the late Gert Donvig and his then wife Mary (now Hanna). These two stallions appear in the pedigrees of many successful horses in each of the Olympic disciplines. Duellschutz is the sire of Olympic showjumping representative, Schnapps and is also in the dam line of World Cup show jumper Wirragulla Nicklaus. The grand dam of young dressage stallion Jazzabout, Hanburg Duell Fancy is by Duellschutz who again shows up in the mare line of Abduell being the sire of Duellsweet and the mare line of AEA Dutchboy. Jazzabout qualified & competed for State & National competitions 2004, 2005, 2006 and in 2007 has competed successfully at Medium level. It is any wonder this colt is flash? |
